I have found Four numbers. 3970010 along with "hecho en mexico" on the back drivers side. 254 on the back passenger side. 010 on the drivers side in front of the oil filter. and the engine code is "MK01800."

Based on the suffix TJA I found it is one of two motors. 1973, 160hp conversion cab truck, or 1979, 165hp forward cab w/ AT. Is there any way to know if its a 302, 327 or 350 or did they all use the same crank and rods. Its deck has been milled so no numbers to get on right front side.

So; my 71 C10 had the original 307 swapped out by the previous owner. He disclosed that it was a freshened up 305 believed to be from an ‘82 Camaro. However; it has the 3970010 casting number on the rear of the block. There is no date code or clock on rear of the engine. One forum quoted that GM moved date codes to the side of the block in the 70's. This is passenger side between the core plugs. Block code (in the usual place) confirmed as 3970010 "M" code next to this.

re: 3970010. Can you post the id letters and numbers that you see on the engine block on the the small extension of the block surface just below and ahead of the head on the passenger side. I have some books that might reveal some info re: the year of the engine. The inside is a clean as if I just built it, there is NO top edge on the cylinders and the bearings look great.
